Last week I rang the Cancer Council to get some brochures and information suitable for children. Jason and I had explained everything to Kady and Leah but I wanted something that they could read as well in a way they could understand. The people at the cancer council were fabulous and sent me a heap of stuff out including three colouring type booklets all in kid language and written by kids. They explained how there were good and bad cells and how they divide and grow and how chemotherapy and radiotherapy will affect me and also the fact that you can't catch it. I never realised this was an issue until Leah said she was worried that you could catch cancer. Leah is in the process of colouring in her little booklet. The bad cells have been coloured red and the good cells bright green. Both girls have found the information very helpful.

WHat a fantastic package put together by the cancer council. Just goes to show we never really know what is going on in our little ones minds...hope your girls are feeling much better about everything. Take care.
That is such a good idea.
I know when my mum was dying from kidney cancer, I was so scared, and I was 21, those days they did not explain things like they do today.
I always remember my dear mum at the age of 39, with this yellow skin, and being so sick, and not once did she say anything, or complain to us, and there were 6 of us kids.
They sure have come along way.
even today with new drugs, and stuff, they still do not know very much about the type of cancer that my mum had.
One day she had cancer, and the next she had died, it took all of 3 months, and not a day goes by when I dont think of her, she was my dear mum, but my best friend.
I loved her so much, we were like sisters, not mother and daughter.
I do know one thing, she was a fighter, and she would have been looking down at my strong daughter, and would say you hang in there sweetie, Dawn is so much like my mum.
Dawn was 19 months old when my mum died, and mum just loved her to bits, she would say to me you have a very special little girl there,she will go far, and she has.
To a special woman, my daughter Dawn, and my best Friend.

Dawn......the Cancer Council has heaps of resources for all the family.
It's also very important that the girls teachers all know what is happening at home so that they too can be supportive.School communities can be very powerful resouces!

Hi Lyn, Thank you for your kind comments, and to all of you for supporting Dawn while she was going through all of this, and for what she still has to go through.
I was out looking for hats this morning, not many around maybe some kind person will knit her some.
It has been a long time since I have picked up my knitting needles.
I am going to enquire at the hospital tomorrow where I work, and see what they have got.
There are a lot of beenies around, but I look at them and think, would she like that colour,or that style, will have a look on ebay, they may have some.

Dawn, it's so great that you are getting the girls involved. The more they understand, the easier it will be for them to cope. The package seems awesome.
