Laugh Kookaburra Laugh,

My little mate visits every day, along with two family members. When we first moved in we often had them on our veranda and then neighbours beside us and at the back cleared their blocks and so for eighteen months or so we never saw the birds at all. This summer they came back and nested in a tree nearby. Recently they started sitting on our veranda. We started giving them the odd bit of meat (note they do not like processed meats at all, but do like good cuts and cat food). We have tried to make sure we don't feed them regular as we don't want them to rely on us.

Anyway these guys are amazing. We are able to pat them, touch their tails etc and they don't bite or move away. They are so tame and yet they still can KILL a piece of steak in two neck movements lol (we have even witnessed one stealing a live mouse from the cat and swallowing it in one gulp, ick) It is awesome to be able to get so close to something so wild. Jason tried today to get the kooka to sit on his arm. The poor bird kept looking at him like, what are you doing mate. I am just wanting to sit here but he didn't even fly away.

Anyway here is a pic of our little kooka mate. Funny enough as I was taking some pics he could see his reflection in the lens and was trying to peck at it. I had to be careful he didn't scratch my lens.
