My first school social was in Grade eight at Oakey High School. I remember being so excited. I had a new white dress, new handbag (my first handbag) and new shoes. I felt so great all dressed up. Mum and Dad arranged for me to go with Shane Morris. I was horrified that I had to go with a boy. Luckily once his Mum dropped us off we parted ways until Dad came to pick us up at eleven o’clock that night. I had a wonderful night of hanging out with friends and listening to cool music. I don’t recall doing much dancing.
